Always have, always will. I have memories of watching the Olympics as a child. It was one activity we actually did as a family. I think the most memorable Olympic moments of my childhood are from 1984 when the games were held in Los Angeles. My father was in the Army and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, near Colorado Springs. The U.S. National Olympic Training Center is also located in Colorado Springs and the Olympic flame was making its way across the country. I remember my parents hearing that the flame would be coming through the city so they hurried to pack us in the car and drive to the other end of town to one of the big parks. It was dusk, I believe, and the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra was playing. Just as the flame entered the venue, the orchestra began to play Chariots of Fire. We got to see the flame be passed from one relay runner to another. It's a moment I will never forget. Nowadays, I get so excited when the Olympics are approaching and basically clear my schedule of everything else so I can watch as much as possible on television. Attending a summer Olympics is on my Bucket List. (1984 was also when Mary Lou Retton got a perfect 10 to win!)<br />
<br />
The Opening Ceremonies are always one of my favorite parts. I love the tradition, the ritual, the symbology, the history. I enjoy that all the nations are "under one roof". Tolerance and peace seems to be within our grasp. Everyone is there for one common goal, to do their best at their given event. I always stay tuned until the very end, waiting to see who will light the cauldron.<br />
<br />
Thankfully, my hubby really enjoys the Olympics as well, and we decided to host an Opening Ceremonies party this past Friday night. I made these invitations a few weeks ago and sent them to some friends.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYI9N1OfmuQ7W2GsOD7rACVVLmCFzzfWTj9rLTfKfvKslGtQjtp-IlV2k12_uo_s9zkCgwQbXUkIJbp7dhek0GyO0iGIUSK8PWNulKUx0uctTPmbKrPzQV1qdbgQIeN2d4eaZjDLYftz4/s1600/557784_3803836807592_15966463_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYI9N1OfmuQ7W2GsOD7rACVVLmCFzzfWTj9rLTfKfvKslGtQjtp-IlV2k12_uo_s9zkCgwQbXUkIJbp7dhek0GyO0iGIUSK8PWNulKUx0uctTPmbKrPzQV1qdbgQIeN2d4eaZjDLYftz4/s320/557784_3803836807592_15966463_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then, I thought we might might need a little ambiance, so I made these table decorations.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLNwzFBNhU-EQiWiHpXz1EF9h5Mn168gUwcBZnAyfkPnICxYyrkwdsaSjT3Yzb-HyPevU8jWPg5zjUAZLbQGhcKJZbYluksF2b-heVy6nodTJ-jKAbBooQbO5jjtNKrpvdB9yCjUcvns/s1600/DSC_0010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLNwzFBNhU-EQiWiHpXz1EF9h5Mn168gUwcBZnAyfkPnICxYyrkwdsaSjT3Yzb-HyPevU8jWPg5zjUAZLbQGhcKJZbYluksF2b-heVy6nodTJ-jKAbBooQbO5jjtNKrpvdB9yCjUcvns/s320/DSC_0010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also thought it would be fun to have an opportunity for our guests to win a medal. I put together a trivia game and the top three scorers won a medal and candy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJStenEOKpEU5smrqJJ7Azo0qQlSM13zDe27zTFMWnQKxunJkiHc3FxpQt3wbEkqYWuo7XcTEg97xUeOAVPD89qcihZoBCP13AOzjy5IdDXyk1AJLwk8BWES7rQ0_N06gtZTF9gcg92UU/s1600/DSC_0018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJStenEOKpEU5smrqJJ7Azo0qQlSM13zDe27zTFMWnQKxunJkiHc3FxpQt3wbEkqYWuo7XcTEg97xUeOAVPD89qcihZoBCP13AOzjy5IdDXyk1AJLwk8BWES7rQ0_N06gtZTF9gcg92UU/s320/DSC_0018.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I made the medals on top of these cheap children's party games, the kind where there are several little balls inside where you have to try to get them to stop in the holes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyZa-bzyDxxc6Larh2DFtDA4zMkpwYT1-qh5wtXfZlcuyeQNvgrIRkUCl7Ju82R9yxD_6M3ll56w-a6qNbgbC3il6NZcoCSoeTmaPhNM70tNkzWCP5k8wcbL6TzI7HlX4ic04oEQ7AKrs/s1600/DSC_0025+-+cropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMz1IVtQVbwH7MDZtT89-RAtkPiJ8KEbXF3NQaTGPkYpZ-aJPbHMnzKOLeuLzAckQGtR_iSyu6zMl2D71FxJznLd9vPTshoYOvgIz9__8S_T0wMM4cnyxx3KgJ2pyGMswtYlkQZeVIDe4/s1600/DSC_0019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMz1IVtQVbwH7MDZtT89-RAtkPiJ8KEbXF3NQaTGPkYpZ-aJPbHMnzKOLeuLzAckQGtR_iSyu6zMl2D71FxJznLd9vPTshoYOvgIz9__8S_T0wMM4cnyxx3KgJ2pyGMswtYlkQZeVIDe4/s320/DSC_0019.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And, here is my hubby with his first place medal. Such a silly guy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyZa-bzyDxxc6Larh2DFtDA4zMkpwYT1-qh5wtXfZlcuyeQNvgrIRkUCl7Ju82R9yxD_6M3ll56w-a6qNbgbC3il6NZcoCSoeTmaPhNM70tNkzWCP5k8wcbL6TzI7HlX4ic04oEQ7AKrs/s1600/DSC_0025+-+cropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyZa-bzyDxxc6Larh2DFtDA4zMkpwYT1-qh5wtXfZlcuyeQNvgrIRkUCl7Ju82R9yxD_6M3ll56w-a6qNbgbC3il6NZcoCSoeTmaPhNM70tNkzWCP5k8wcbL6TzI7HlX4ic04oEQ7AKrs/s320/DSC_0025+-+cropped.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
So, now, I must get back to watching some events on television!<br />

added a few drops of paint (October Afternoon Sprinklers "Buttermilk"). I ended up not using the twine. I was so wrapped up in the rest of the elements, I just forgot about it! The verse is Matthew 22:21: "If you

Well, wait no more! I'm back! Surely, I jest. :-) I'm not sure what has kept me away but, never the less, I'm ready to share a couple of cards with you. Neither are spectacular but I like them.<br />
<br />
First up is a graduation card I made. I actually made several, one for each graduation party we attended this spring. I really like the school theme.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvcAeaAWM0DK_ofkzBShuiwV-yqr2ySGQ2cbmA-PXlKXMirNDmeLm8qSWk-L8VkkPE3AHWoknO9HF3uwMiJsW0MUj7qAhFuubJaFo43xLnDRmFr5XkxVGhkIGhJbvEosB7vYcMuuqmDos/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsejTNYIp1AM4gaNFxfWKrVvjzLEm1j1LquJrX8-WwP3xLYdQLw8qeLoBSvd-CqWuYv4EjrQ-uLxvWVhC_zf4DprzloBm9KZN6-WKN8raLC4IMp7YJfRnvkYJkYcOwnxuICk_bNyVM_f4/s1600/DSC_0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi97OF41L-OIeBYB0WHULp-ycaqPdIRicqLDu3w1t9oTwT1C2rzjiDTg4F5sA0RR_RGZoWXPiwllsTT6P6zRy0iCGw-mPP0lBHNyAZHLW-6ExE77q2R9YASptgNTXc-KKqAc6oqedBoie4/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="448" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi97OF41L-OIeBYB0WHULp-ycaqPdIRicqLDu3w1t9oTwT1C2rzjiDTg4F5sA0RR_RGZoWXPiwllsTT6P6zRy0iCGw-mPP0lBHNyAZHLW-6ExE77q2R9YASptgNTXc-KKqAc6oqedBoie4/s640/DSC_0001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Second is a card I made for a co-worker who just bought her first home. I really like the embossing folder used to made the "roof".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1NYF7beRr_EhVxUE-ivO8LXMF8gLSTisuR6Mfykus7vZshAlTX95atedsp5PNZWVLkkqFFdG2b9AiQt9YGxmtFHM6ND_zdjwN_rOavrnxsMiOlY2aSNV_pMbunE7XKEZRvWh3mRDidM8/s1600/DSC_0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="448" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1NYF7beRr_EhVxUE-ivO8LXMF8gLSTisuR6Mfykus7vZshAlTX95atedsp5PNZWVLkkqFFdG2b9AiQt9YGxmtFHM6ND_zdjwN_rOavrnxsMiOlY2aSNV_pMbunE7XKEZRvWh3mRDidM8/s640/DSC_0003.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Well, I'll try not to be gone so long this time. Hope to have lots of projects and inspiration for you soon!<br />

You know, the one where the CEO of a large corporation goes undercover in his/her own company to see how things are working or, in some cases, not working. I like hearing the back story of each CEO...their humble beginnings, the people that encouraged them, their stories of hard work and dedication, and the lives they are living now. It's always interesting to watch these CEO's change their image (so their employees don't recognize them) and, in most cases, enter into a work environment they've never been in before...everything from fast food to home appliance repair, from shipping and receiving to being a plumber, from driving a truck to bottling wine. However, the two most interesting parts of the show for me are the interactions of the CEO with his/her employees and when he/she reveals himself/herself to their employees and is able to reward or reprimand them.<br />
<br />
I was watching an episode recently where the CEO was riding along with a guy who delivers the company's wine to various restaurants. The employee spoke freely about not following company rules, had extremely colorful language, arrived late for his deliveries and talked back to the restaurant owners who weren't happy that he was late. The CEO obviously did not like the behavior of his employee and was upset that this was the image their customers were getting of the company. This moment in the show <u>grabbed me</u>. I began to wonder how I would act differently if I could see Jesus standing next to me. How many times a day do you think about Him being in the same room with you or remember that He is taking each step with you throughout the day? Would your words be kinder or would you continue to gossip? Would your actions be more heartfelt and compassionate or would you act without thinking about how it affects others? Would your work be done with more effort or would you do just enough to get by? Would you make more of an effort to please Him or just pretend He wasn't there?<br />
<br />
I believe that I try to be nice, kind, hard working, honest, and considerate. But, I also believe that if I thought about Jesus sitting right next to me during the day, I would probably be a little bit more of each of those things. <br />
<br />
The last part of the show is always the most fun to watch. Probably 90% of the time, the CEO brings the employees to headquarters, reveals himself/herself, tells the employee all the things he was impressed with (and, in some cases, not impressed with), and usually presents them with some kind of monetary reward or other incentive (such as giving them more responsibility or asking them to be part of a training team). How great it will be when we arrive in heaven and Jesus says to us, "‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!" (Matt. 25:21)<br />
<br />
I am praying that Jesus will reveal Himself to me more throughout the day and that I will strive to please Him with my words and actions. I want to remember that He is sitting next to me in the car when somebody cuts me off; that He is with me on the phone when I'm talking with an angry client; that He is with me I am alone and no one else can see me.<br />

FIRST, I am happy to announce that I've just become an Independent Demonstrator for Stampin' Up! I've been using their products for more than 10 years and finally decided to take the leap into the business side of things. I love creating and sharing what I've learned, so feel free to <a href="mailto:mary.staveness@gmail.com">email me</a> or visit my Stampin' Up! <a href="http://marystaveness.stampinup.net/">website </a>to place an order or to host a workshop!<br />
<br />
SECOND, I've also decided to change the name of my blog to "A Layered Life". I want to share more about various parts of my life, not just my stamping and scrapbooking. Also, my cards and scrapbook pages are typically filled with layers of paper, stamps, photos, and embellishments. What a great way to tie it all together!<br />
<br />
I hope you're enjoying sharing my journey with me, albeit kind of slow lately. I hope to post more soon. Stay tuned for updates!<br />

I'm told by my siblings that I still have this "look" sometimes. :) It's hard to believe my mom was only about 21 years old here and that she had two young children.<br />
<br />
This is a pretty simple page, mostly because I didn't want to detract from the photo too much.<br />

Love these slippers I got on a clearance rack at the Lands End Outlet! I just looked at them one day and instantly thought, "I can make a card that looks like these!" They look so warm and inviting, probably because they look like a knit sweater. I really like the brown buttons on them as well.<br />
<br />

I love that he noticed and figured it out right away! I guess I'm becoming predictable. :) But, yes, he was right. I was ripping off parts of the packaging so I could make this cute page. I found some great paper from one of my favorite manufacturers, lily bee design, in bright primary colors that I knew would be perfect. I really like how it turned out.<br />

So, I decided to make some little note pads. I actually gave these away as stocking stuffers, so I need to make some more for myself! <br />
<br />
I love this stamp set from Stampin' Up!. It's appropriately named "Notes & Details". I mounted 4 of the stamps onto a clear block and was ready to stamp away!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisJao3wwNrnAlSPxPXOWjHARbBRpCsioS7-7D9nBgR2IwcuEe2zyMsAI4lKrPoASkWDdU7oasVJNCftqrRD6m8yjuzxgdokC6Nbvi_4317zJIxDuoEmnq3Aar5BFxhyz1f7Qji0vTeo70/s1600/DSCN0050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisJao3wwNrnAlSPxPXOWjHARbBRpCsioS7-7D9nBgR2IwcuEe2zyMsAI4lKrPoASkWDdU7oasVJNCftqrRD6m8yjuzxgdokC6Nbvi_4317zJIxDuoEmnq3Aar5BFxhyz1f7Qji0vTeo70/s320/DSCN0050.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
For each note pad, I cut 5 sheets of cardstock into (20) 3-1/2" x 5" pieces and then used my Fiskars cutter with perforating blade 3/4" from the top of each piece. Next, I stamped the above image in Basic Black ink towards the bottom of each piece of cardstock. Then, I used my Crop-o-Dile to punch holes in the top. Finally, I stamped the largest of the stamps from the "Bliss" set in ink coordinating with the cardstock - Rose Red, Marina Mist and Wild Wasabi. (You can see that some of the background stamps are darker than the others. This is because I was stamping off onto scrap paper and then onto the note pad page - so it wouldn't be so dark - and I forgot a few times! Oh, well!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBeM9ubJwk8AWyubT367GTKB9sAUaqCCIhE2N8Wy0Etd4GoeD7wcay1IxP4B4SW2Yhwd_BprLbStxCsL2s34aFTB3ombS8Q4nV36T1WgGTWrHpnzqT5b0QdGynWQou4WOW8_vtzyFFpLE/s1600/DSCN0063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBeM9ubJwk8AWyubT367GTKB9sAUaqCCIhE2N8Wy0Etd4GoeD7wcay1IxP4B4SW2Yhwd_BprLbStxCsL2s34aFTB3ombS8Q4nV36T1WgGTWrHpnzqT5b0QdGynWQou4WOW8_vtzyFFpLE/s320/DSCN0063.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4HZB4PfiqYTpBdIZr6CP1_QSS_0hE2lTpLbu0bARJUJiz2ZnDjEXEl18SdHcmn_i5e4ZRv2A3GO6l8mUnsHJCCFsToYa0Bawi0lvQLK-xL1_7-llrQRkgpv_1whVUWYDBg7TQ82Ctop0/s1600/DSCN0064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4HZB4PfiqYTpBdIZr6CP1_QSS_0hE2lTpLbu0bARJUJiz2ZnDjEXEl18SdHcmn_i5e4ZRv2A3GO6l8mUnsHJCCFsToYa0Bawi0lvQLK-xL1_7-llrQRkgpv_1whVUWYDBg7TQ82Ctop0/s320/DSCN0064.JPG" width="240" /></a></div> <br />
The next step was creating the wrap for the top of each pad. I cut Whisper White cardstock to 2" x 3-1/2" and scored each piece 3/4"from the top and bottom edges. I again used the largest of the stamps from the "Bliss" set and covered the cardstock. I punched corresponding holes with the Crop-o-Dile, and used coordinating ribbon to attach it all together.<br />

I got the basic dimensions and cutting instructions from my Stampin' Up! demonstrator, Jessica Taylor. It was actually very quick and easy. I love how it turned out.<br />

Here are two photos of this cute journal that gave me inspiration! Not shown below are the cards that are inserted into each pocket with prompts such as "wanting", "feeling" and "thinking". The idea is to write something about each of these prompts once a month for the entire year. Sara loves to write and journal, so I knew she would just love this idea!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjip2jxS_G7_CjILidHKmiUIL5yzf_CN8R2rn7zwVTUlE-Rj_mjEAuOGFauAOdkL2npQuLner5DcwxCuYxEkfTZYjNX4j8Pp4w0n1BdMSgwJfTqwZeG_4rc9h7bd1UpasXnclmeJLgmLu8/s1600/2012+Journal+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjip2jxS_G7_CjILidHKmiUIL5yzf_CN8R2rn7zwVTUlE-Rj_mjEAuOGFauAOdkL2npQuLner5DcwxCuYxEkfTZYjNX4j8Pp4w0n1BdMSgwJfTqwZeG_4rc9h7bd1UpasXnclmeJLgmLu8/s320/2012+Journal+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Now, Sara loves red and black, so I chose the products appropriately. I decided to use glassine kraft envelopes to hold a little card containing the following prompts:<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Impact","sans-serif"; line-height: 200%; mso-bidi-font-family: Rod; mso-themecolor: text1;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;"> </span>enjoying, feeling, wanting, scripture, reading, needing, writing, wondering, singing, creating</span><br />
<br />
Here is the cover:<br />

The envelopes are layered under the accent papers and the calendars are mounted to the <u>back</u> of the envelopes. I mounted them backwards so that the flaps would be easy to open. The calendars cover up the seam in the envelopes.<br />

I had so much fun making this that I decided I will make something similar for myself. Now, just to decide on a design!<br />
<br />
Hope you enjoyed seeing this as much as I enjoyed making it!<br />

I was notified yesterday that the layout I did about my Nook was going to be part of Creating Keepsakes blog today! You can't imagine how excited I was to hear that! Check out their blog <a href="http://www.creatingkeepsakesblog.com/blog/2011/11/ck-me-november-2/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Here again is the inspiration for "My Nook" layout. I found this sketch in <a href="http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/index.html"><span style="color: #627349;">Creating Keepsakes magazine</span></a> that I decided to scraplift. This is my first time using a sketch and I must say that I really enjoyed it! The basic design was already done for me; I just had to pick the paper, photos and embellishments.<br />

<br />
I wanted to create a page about my Nook Color, which I received for my birthday earlier this year. I recently won an iPad 2 and am no longer using my Nook (anyone want to buy it?), but I wanted to document the fact that I had it and enjoyed reading books on it. I found this sketch in <a href="http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/index.html">Creating Keepsakes magazine</a> that I decided to scraplift. This is my first time using a sketch and I must say that I really enjoyed it! The basic design was already done for me; I just had to pick the paper, photos and embellishments.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh2VR-34cIPZCGduntb2TT5ySgQZvv3H-ULXli-Fkn1MSssY9JbQx-S4Pqj0Zzm0TlsQcDBAWJdzGFDdAU46gddcELicCd-fMmtbwe-prqK_zTlPrKb8bvi10kUthsQLd3igzZzOEh1Y0/s1600/CP+Sketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh2VR-34cIPZCGduntb2TT5ySgQZvv3H-ULXli-Fkn1MSssY9JbQx-S4Pqj0Zzm0TlsQcDBAWJdzGFDdAU46gddcELicCd-fMmtbwe-prqK_zTlPrKb8bvi10kUthsQLd3igzZzOEh1Y0/s320/CP+Sketch.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<br />
So, how often does 11.11.11 come around? Well, only once, of course! And how often does 11.11.11 at 11:11 happen? Well, twice, I guess. A.M. and P.M. <br />
<br />
Elizabeth Kartchner, an amazing scrap-artist, in her <a href="http://elizabethkartchner.blogspot.com/2011/11/111111-challenge-no-2.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FJcmp+%28Dear+Lizzy%29&utm_content=Google+Reader">blog</a> suggested we photograph where we were/what we were doing 11:11 a.m. on 11.11.11. And, while I assume most of those who took this challenge are going to post some great scrapbook page they were working on at the time, or a beautiful location they were visiting, I offer up only this photo of my desk at work. I had to work today at 11:11 a.m. Not real inspiring.<br />
<br />
Note, however, my handcrafted calendar sitting on top of my hard drive. And, don't overlook the glue stick and highlighters....craft making supplies, right?<br />

So, I stumbled across a new blog in which the author has a <a href="http://www.stephaniehowell.com/my_weblog/2011/10/blog-your-heart-a-challenge.html">Blog Your Heart Challenge</a> every month. Here's the challenge...."it's a pretty simple challenge. blog your heart. HONESTLY. it can be silly, funny, serious, short or long...whatever you want it to be. as long as it is <strong>authentic." </strong>And, while my blog has primarily been about sharing my scrappy/stamping activities, I thought I would take the challenge and share a little bit. So, here's the state of my heart.<br />
<br />
<ol><li>Blogging My Heart scares me a little. I've never been one to share so transparently, but I've been learning that it's not as scary as it seems.</li>
<li>I've been lazy lately and it frustrates me. Why is it that when I know I'm being lazy, I continue to do it anyway? I guess it's like Roman 7:19-20 says, "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it."</li>
<li>The weather is turning cold and I'm not happy about it. I get chilled to the bone very easily. Even a stiff breeze on a nice summer day can make me chilly. I am, however, thankful for the heat in my house, flannel sheets, warm sweaters and Smart Wool socks!</li>
<li>I LOVE MY HUSBAND! I enjoy spending time with him cooking dinner, watching movies, playing games, camping, going to church, snuggling, talking, shopping, etc. He knows me better than anyone, which is kind of scary, but comforting at the same time. He supports and encourages me when I need it. He's there for me no matter what. I know he loves me too, and that makes me happy!</li>
<li>I have a couple of very dear friends that I miss. All I need to do is call them up and plan a time to get together. (There's that laziness again.) They enrich my life so much and I'm always blessed by the time and words we share.</li>
<li>I have been reading "The Shelter of God's Promises" by Sheila Walsh. I just finished chapter 4 and was reminded that "..our calling is to be conformed, to be made like Christ. In this Christlikeness is our <em>confidence</em>." I sometimes still wonder who I am, where I'm going, and what my purpose is. I think I'm subconsciously looking for something BIG, something that will gain approval or show off my gifts and talents; or something so extraordinary that others will be awe. I don't seek those things out with intention and I don't believe that <em>doing things</em> will secure my salvation. I just think we all want to be noticed. However, I need to make sure that it is Christ that is noticing me; that he sees and hears me when I spend time with him. In doing that, I will know who I am, where I'm going, and what my purpose is.</li>
</ol><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="The Shelter by Sheila Walsh" height="200" src="http://sheilawalsh.com/theme/images/The-Shelter_Book-Cover.jpg" width="133" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Well, that's my heart right now. I guess it wasn't too hard to share after all. :)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Have a happy day!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Mary</div>Mary Stavenesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08096179254772699336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724229452317723135.post-65589103040770092862011-10-30T12:28:00.000-07:002011-12-03T18:14:49.968-08:00Creation SingsI was playing around with my photo editor and made a collage with some of my flower photos. I also had this great paper, letters and paper ribbon from Basic Grey that I wanted to use so I combined them and created the following page. It's a little more colorful and busy than I would normally like, but this page makes me happy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Ga5GlYHn1EqM69CsiMDCTk739C8lZZFtoypTOYcotiam-PSV13Jr2lO5urqNpzCKlhjJBLdM2AHyBIjI2JojI2f7hiPxkav6qT1reQZJXbgcpG69vkyqoO3OvRxHDo3XSyAVUCq48AI/s1600/DSC_0030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Ga5GlYHn1EqM69CsiMDCTk739C8lZZFtoypTOYcotiam-PSV13Jr2lO5urqNpzCKlhjJBLdM2AHyBIjI2JojI2f7hiPxkav6qT1reQZJXbgcpG69vkyqoO3OvRxHDo3XSyAVUCq48AI/s320/DSC_0030.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I created little pockets on the back to house these pull out tabs with scripture verses on them.<br />

A new word is given to me each day by a different scrapbook artist. Tomorrow is the official last day and I still have 9 words to finish! I plan to put these into a 6x6 album, so I've planned for opposing pages to be similar to one another. I decided to use scripture verses as my "journaling". Here are the first two.<br />
<br />
FREE<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtFd2P3YTINZa_MbAU0vfScXvPhnfefub7FwuSWfipljT1IbEZyhraev25pqpDBTpIvDz81dMJ5-8-azqCNOWgETpqz497ztoXqGc48QfdSTNrtna3N0aEpOrMKoBRCLpwg4-jSy4sSYQ/s1600/Free+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtFd2P3YTINZa_MbAU0vfScXvPhnfefub7FwuSWfipljT1IbEZyhraev25pqpDBTpIvDz81dMJ5-8-azqCNOWgETpqz497ztoXqGc48QfdSTNrtna3N0aEpOrMKoBRCLpwg4-jSy4sSYQ/s320/Free+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." John 8:31-32<br />
<br />
WONDER<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqyfu-kxQzxwqmDRxZarM7QxaaeOiRR7Zbn8c4vKsB1YZDDAqVJ__Lwyh45u6L9UNALEUkD9CHr9vVi9WQM-R8xB2LqyfdTh0dD3Lvr09fD7PFTjxZzChv1NjBJZcM_GJAhNAFjr1_CQ0/s1600/Wonder+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqyfu-kxQzxwqmDRxZarM7QxaaeOiRR7Zbn8c4vKsB1YZDDAqVJ__Lwyh45u6L9UNALEUkD9CHr9vVi9WQM-R8xB2LqyfdTh0dD3Lvr09fD7PFTjxZzChv1NjBJZcM_GJAhNAFjr1_CQ0/s320/Wonder+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds they would be too many to declare. Psalm 40:5<br />
<br />
I used alcohol inks on acetate, then layered on Polar Ice <em>Bazzill</em> cardstock as well as <em>lily bee design</em> "This & That" paper and stickers. I also used stamps and inked the edges of the cardstock. <br />
<br />
As I complete the other pages, I'll post them as well.<br />

That's what this page is all about. I love everything about this page, particularly the colors. I tried a new thing on this page....I used a glue pad to stamp the flowers and the title, and then used Flocking. Flocking is fuzzy when dry and I love it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMmSD19CizVMBNeSN1yL6nijtwZqXZnfoxC0-QiuTCcX1bixTdHevHzaJk8a43CArhyphenhyphenTDkIR5MO85lrwGDcP9RC3Bj_F4cpjcFnFLr1nJWlICwIxKMJebf_0i5WW7Z5I5nPfA42W3r8xQ/s1600/DSC_0005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMmSD19CizVMBNeSN1yL6nijtwZqXZnfoxC0-QiuTCcX1bixTdHevHzaJk8a43CArhyphenhyphenTDkIR5MO85lrwGDcP9RC3Bj_F4cpjcFnFLr1nJWlICwIxKMJebf_0i5WW7Z5I5nPfA42W3r8xQ/s320/DSC_0005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I made the butterfly by making a collage of various papers (all from the same collection), and added orange gemstones for more definition.<br />

It's fun to reflect on being made a new creation by creating something new!<br />

It was interesting to see some notes I had written in the calendar. But, I was really drawing to the colors and the verse of this page, so I trimmed it down and decided to scrap it. The verse talks about how great God's love is for us and how we can never fully understand the depth of it.<br />

This makes it so much easier to see what punches and I have and gets rid of a couple of very full, unorganized boxes on my shelf!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioS-tZaXruK50nqVkWPznOKtk5himmH5V9iM61nIKTp_-Ef3XKg-zcZqAzxZLq92o5Hsc1owIyjz8unONSNaxjt4G49iXWT6-6IP-TV6rF5IpNOWr5Ri4XJMpOJ5arrR9Q1LoYDaqYQAo/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioS-tZaXruK50nqVkWPznOKtk5himmH5V9iM61nIKTp_-Ef3XKg-zcZqAzxZLq92o5Hsc1owIyjz8unONSNaxjt4G49iXWT6-6IP-TV6rF5IpNOWr5Ri4XJMpOJ5arrR9Q1LoYDaqYQAo/s320/DSC_0001.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><br />
I punched out the shapes and made "labels" for the individual pouches so I can easily find the punch I am looking for.<br />

I tried several new things on this page. The "underneath" background is a collage of security envelopes (you know, the kind you get with your junk mail that have different designs on the insides), and the cross is from a newspaper ad that I found few Easter ago when visiting friends in SC. I used ModPodge to adhere and seal them to the page. Then, I used acrylic paints to add some additional color. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ-moYh02CyQ_OgmgYk_VDLKo-eH3_bu5z5tlnZHZen0Zai93_sb2Ews3sXVGmRe39SnsbDazDgWuSl28QcRcoR4TTQFIYDIw3402Mjt2m4MXlcdV9y59v1sXy1xZD7sJO9H6WSc-Fe7s/s1600/DSC_0023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ-moYh02CyQ_OgmgYk_VDLKo-eH3_bu5z5tlnZHZen0Zai93_sb2Ews3sXVGmRe39SnsbDazDgWuSl28QcRcoR4TTQFIYDIw3402Mjt2m4MXlcdV9y59v1sXy1xZD7sJO9H6WSc-Fe7s/s320/DSC_0023.JPG" width="221" /></a></div><br />
In the photo below you can see about 4 different envelope designs (all are black or blue).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCDx2he8v3lhrrjLmWIe2MbWz-CoKaunr16J5ZGt9KAXh1oRKxnaTLNyjr_BykA0aQ6hue-lyUW7E5-EzUCuwYtV-sNbUU5qJzzeG_DDvx5FUVTuXRa0Dwkb-UWmE05lL-wf1ZLslakHs/s1600/DSC_0024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCDx2he8v3lhrrjLmWIe2MbWz-CoKaunr16J5ZGt9KAXh1oRKxnaTLNyjr_BykA0aQ6hue-lyUW7E5-EzUCuwYtV-sNbUU5qJzzeG_DDvx5FUVTuXRa0Dwkb-UWmE05lL-wf1ZLslakHs/s320/DSC_0024.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I added some stamps and wrote the words for two of the verses to the old hymn 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus around the cross, and the chorus on the lines in the corner.<br />
<br />

The butterfly, with the words Faith, Trust, Hope and Believe, is also stamp that I embossed in white.<br />

I think for my first try, it turned out pretty good! I'm going to try an actual art journal. I'll let you know how it goes in a week or so.<br />
