'Tis So Sweet - Art Journaling Attempt

Here is my first attempt at art journaling. I tried several new things on this page. The "underneath" background is a collage of security envelopes (you know, the kind you get with your junk mail that have different designs on the insides), and the cross is from a newspaper ad that I found few Easter ago when visiting friends in SC.  I used ModPodge to adhere and seal them to the page.  Then, I used acrylic paints to add some additional color.

In the photo below you can see about 4 different envelope designs (all are black or blue).

I added some stamps and wrote the words for two of the verses to the old hymn 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus around the cross, and the chorus on the lines in the corner.

The butterfly, with the words Faith, Trust, Hope and Believe, is also stamp that I embossed in white.

I think for my first try, it turned out pretty good!  I'm going to try an actual art journal.  I'll let you know how it goes in a week or so.

Okoboji

Last month, we went to visit Jody's brother Eric and his wife Jamie in Iowa.  We spent a couple of days with them at Lake Okoboji.  We had a great time just hanging out, playing games, and going out on the boat.  Jody took these photos of me one of the times we were on the boat.  I really don't like having my picture taken and didn't care much for the photos.  But, when I saw patterned paper in my stash, it immediately made me think of the color in my shirt in these photos.  So, of course, I had to make a scrapbook page.  Here is the finished product.

I have to say that I think this is one my favorite pages!

Transformation

This page was inspired by a sermon and my ribbon organizer.  I wanted to visually capture the change that takes place in us after we accept Christ into our lives; as we move from the darkness of our sinful lives to the light that shines through us.  The black ribbon represents our sin and as the ribbon lightens, we are transformed more and more to the image of Christ because of what He did for us on the cross.

First, here are a couple of photos of my ribbon organizer!  Notice the gradation of colors, much like a rainbow?

And, now, the Transformation page!  I made lots of sketches of the hills before deciding on a design.  Each hill is a separate piece and are layered one on top of the other.  The cross is two layers of yellow mulberry paper; the bottom was inked on the edges with gold ink.

Similar to my last post, I submitted this for a challenge but didn't win.  I'm still very proud of it, though!

Til next time....

"So Very Beautiful" Journal

This is a journal cover I submitted to Paper Crafts magazine for their "Cure for the Winter Blues" issue.  Unfortunately, they didn't pick me.  Thought I'd share with you.  Hope you like it!

Welcome to My Blog!

This is my first attempt at blogging.  Not sure how this will go as I don't consider myself much of a writer.  I don't even journal much.  So, why would I start a blog you ask?  Well, as I've started to follow blogs of other stampers/scrapbookers, I thought to myself, "I can do that!"  Now, the question is whether anyone really cares.

I love creating cards, scrapbook pages, and other fun things with paper, stamps & embellishments.  My very encouraging husband, Jody, says I'm good a what I do.  I tend to be complimented on my work when others see it or receive it as a gift.  So, I'm hoping the rest of the world might enjoy it as well.

Also, as I begin to enter my work into contests or submit it for magazines, etc., I thought it would lend some credibility to my work if I had a blog.

Here is a card I made recently.

I hope you enjoy what you see and read!  Thanks for stopping by.
